How to Start a Blog in 2020 | Blogging for Beginners |
Step 6: Promote Your Blog
Promoting the blog is an aspect in which I see that most
bloggers fail. There are a lot of great bloggers out there that nobody has ever
heard of, simply because they don't know how, or just don't want to, promote
their blog.
The most important advice I can give you about promoting
your blog is not to be shy when telling people about your blog!
I have heard many bloggers who tell me they don't promote
their blogs simply because they don't feel it is worthy of promotion.
Don't do this to yourself! If you have invested time to set
up a great site with great content, then you need to tell people about it. You
must be proud of the work you have invested.
So how do you promote your blog? Well, it turns out that the
most effective promotional methods are free!
1. Social networks
Most likely, you already have a Facebook account, and maybe
even a Twitter account. So when you post something on your blog, be sure to
also post a link to your blog on your social accounts.
It also helps to connect with other people interested in the
subject. Send a friend request to the best bloggers in your niche and make sure
you also follow them on Twitter.
You will be surprised to see how many people are interested
in your post, and then share the link with their friends.
2. Comment on other blogs
In many blogs you can leave a comment, along with a link to
your own blog. If you make useful comments on blogs related to the topic, you
will be exposing your blog right in front of people you know are interested in
the topic.
Caution! Do not abuse this method.
If you leave unpleasant comments on posts just so your name
is known out there, that will only harm your blog. Moreover, poor quality
comments may be deleted by the blog owner anyway.
If you make a useful comment, it is more possible for people
to think about visiting your site, since they will want to know more about what
you have to say on the subject.
3. Link to other blogs
One of the best ideas for writing a blog is to write a
response to a blog post. This could be a blog post that you don't agree with,
or simply a topic that you have something else to add.
When doing this, be sure to link to the blog to which you
are responding. In most blogs this creates what is known as a
"trackback" or "backlink."
A trackback simply means that the blog you have linked to
will also send a link (automatically) to your blog. This means that anyone who
reads the other person's blog will also see the link to your blog and,
hopefully, click on it to visit your site.
4. Guest publication
Another way to reach readers of other blogs to hear about
your blog is to write articles as a guest.
To write a guest post you just have to contact other blog
owners and offer to write an entry for your site.
Not all bloggers are open to this idea, but if you can find
a few that are, it is a great deal for everyone. If people enjoy your guest
post then they are likely to visit your blog to see more excellent content.
5. Online forums
If you haven't already done so, you should join popular
online forums related to your topic.
Many forums will allow you to send a link to your site in
the signature that goes at the bottom of each post you write. Some forums may
require you to make a couple of posts before letting you do this.
Once you've joined a forum, make useful posts. As with blog
comments, the content of your forum posts has to be of high quality and useful.
People will not want to read your blog if they don't think your forum posts are
useful and interesting.
6. Frequent publication
The promotion methods focus primarily on getting new readers
for your blog. However, it is also necessary to ensure that once readers find
your blog they return!
Making new publications frequently (at least once a week,
but preferably every 1-2 days), is the key to building and maintaining a large
number of followers.
