YouTube Studio to create videos and add effects, photos, writings |
Those who experienced the first period with YouTube were well aware that in order to get good videos it was necessary to modify them directly on the PC before uploading: we could use both extremely expensive programs like Vegas Pro and use the myriad of free programs designed for the purpose. Fortunately, all these steps are superfluous, since Google has added a video editor to YouTube that allows, in fact, to create videos with photos and music, cut videos, add effects and changes of various types in a simple and affordable way for everyone , without having to use a computer program.
Let's see how to use YouTube Studio to create videos and add effects, photos, writings and all other video-editing operations that can make our video truly unique.
How to use YouTube Studio
To use the online video editing tool, all we need to do is access the YouTube Studio page and log in with any Google account (the account used on YouTube is fine, but also a Gmail account or an account created for Android ).
First launch of YouTube Studio
At the first start it will ask us to create our channel, so as to unlock the video editor access; then enter the first and last name where requested and click on Create channel below.
After creation we will have access to all our videos already uploaded to the account; if we want to immediately upload a new video to edit, just click on the button in the form of the camera (Create a video or a post -> Upload video) in the top right corner.
After uploading a video, press on its name in the video list (also accessible by clicking on the left bar on the Video button) to open the edit screen. All the various editor options are available in the left bar:
Details: allows you to change the name of the video, the tags, the description, the cover image, the type of license and the addition of other useful details such as recording date, age limits and location of the video.
Data and analysis: in this screen we can check the progress of videos already published, so as to find out how many appreciations and how long users remain on our videos.
Editor: in this screen we will have the editor proper, with which we will be able to resize videos, add the final screen, add music, cut the video and much more (as we will see in the dedicated chapter).
Comments: allows users to check comments and filter out unwanted comments (we can also disable them altogether).
Transcripts: if we want to add custom subtitles to our video, this is the screen for you.
Other functions: here we find other useful menus to activate the automatic translation of YouTube and the menu to promote the video and make money with Adsense.
Obviously for this guide we will focus on the features offered by the Editor menu, which includes all the video editing tools offered by YouTube.
Editor mode of YouTube Studio
Once you have selected the video to edit, we click on the Editor menu in the left sidebar to open the YouTube edit menu.
A screen similar to the non-linear editors that we can download on a PC will open, with a timeline at the bottom where there is the whole video plus some options to cut the video and to add effects and audio (additional timeline bars).
Cutting a part of the video is really very simple: we press on the Cut button and choose the part of the video to be cut, dragging the edges present at the beginning and end of the video; to increase accuracy we can also use the Split button at the bottom to be able to create the various parts of video to be deleted. To confirm, click on Preview at the bottom and then on
To add background music or to completely change the audio of the video, let's expand the Audio timeline bar, click on Audio and choose, in the new window that opens, which song to add from those offered by YouTube (all without copyright, so as to avoid bad surprises with the majors).
If instead we wanted to add a final screen with other suggestions to our videos, we click on the Add a final screen bar, we choose the theme with which to conclude our video and finally the contents to show.
To add a blur instead to protect a face, a plaque or a point of the video, just press on the Add blur bar, choose between the Blur faces or Custom blur items and apply the effect to our video.
During our modifications we can cancel them at any time by clicking on the Cancel button at the top; if instead we wanted to repeat an operation, just use the Repeat button; to cancel all the changes made in one shot, simply press Cancel changes.
Once the desired changes have been made, we can make them effective by clicking on the Save button at the top. In case we wanted to download a modified version of the video on our PC (to keep it or to review it offline), just click on the three dots at the top of the video title and use the Download button.
Conclusions
As we have seen, YouTube Studio offers everything you need to better manage the videos we upload on our channel, with the ability to make simple changes to the videos without having to use any additional programs (just upload the video to YouTube and proceed with the internal editor).
But the alternatives to Youtube Editor are not lacking and, in this regard, we advise you to read our guide on the sites to create videos with photos, images, music and special effects. If, on the other hand, we are looking for a professional way to combine and cut pieces of video, we advise you to read our guide to join and cut videos, where we talked about some excellent free PC programs. If we want to quickly improve the videos before uploading them, we can also follow the suggestions proposed in our article on How to improve videos to upload them to Youtube or Facebook.
